Back when the Affordable Care Act was being written, Steve got a little concerned.
The church had too many employees, and if the ACA passed he would have to pay health insurance for his employees.
Ever the crafty manager, he didn’t like the idea of parting with his money, so he cleverly found a solution.
Some employees he moved to part time on paper while maintaining their full-time requirements.
Others he shifted to different corporations he ran while maintaining their current responsibilities at the church.
Still others he let go entirely. At the end of the day, he successfully skirted under the law and avoided the mandate to ensure that people in poverty were given fair and clear access to health care. I remember this well, as I was struggling with many health problems, and the entire staff knew. Steve just cared more about his bottom line than the lives of the sheep in his ‘flock.’
However, it’s also worth noting how that employment number changed when the Payment Protection Plan money became available. https://www.sba.com/ppp-funded-companies/missouri/jubilation-ministries-inc-344288
